The flag is slightly complex in design and features the sisserou parrot, the national bird and an endangered species found only in Dominica. The flag’s green field symbolises the lush vegetation of the land while the cross stands for Christianity and the Trinity. The three colors of the cross represent the natives (yellow), the soil (black) and pure water (white). A red circle symbolising justice is in the center and placed over it is the national bird surrounded by 10 green stars representing the 10 parishes in the country. The feathers of the parrot are purple in color making Dominica one of the two countries to use this color in their national flag.
