Spirit Day was started by Brittany McMillan, a Canadian teenager, and observed for the first time on 20 October 2010. The day raises awareness of the bullying LGBTQ members undergo. Spirit day is now observed on 15 October each year.
The name of the day name comes from the violet coloured stripe in the rainbow pride flag which stands for “spirit”. Thus, on this day people wear purple/violet color to show their support and solidarity with the LGBTQ victims of bullying.
Ideally, Spirit Day Purple should be exactly the same as the violet in the rainbow flag – hexadecimal code #86007D, RGB: 134, 0, 125, CMYK: 0, 100, 6, 47 and closest Pantone® value 2415 C. However, we feel other shades can also be used. And based on this, we devised our color scheme.
