The Brussels-Capital Region came into being on the 18th of June 1989 and, after a public competition, adopted a flag designed by Jacques Richez. The banner had the symbol of the city – the yellow iris – in yellow color on a blue field. These two colors come from those of he European Union. This flag was used till 2015.
On 9th January 2015, a bill was approved and a new flag was adopted based on the recently changed logo of the city. The Pantone name/number of the colors are Black, 280, 116 and White for black, blue, yellow and white, respectively.
FYI, the flag of Brussels-Capital Region is different from the flag of the city of Brussels (capital of Belgium).
