The Bangladeshi flag was adopted on 17 January 1972 and has a red coloured disc on a green field. The disc is not centered and shifted slightly towards the hoist symbolises the sun rising over the country. The green color is for the lushness of the land and is not connected to Islam, which is the dominant religion in Bangladesh.
The present day national flag is based on one used in the Liberation War which had yellow coloured map of the country inside the red disc.
