Formerly known as the Federal Capital Territory, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) contains the Australian capital Canberra and a few other surrounding townships. The flag was designed by Ivo Ostyn who has also suggested changes since. Most important of these is to do away with the coat of arms, which according to him, was insisted upon by the ACT Chief Minister, and led to a “sub-standard flag”.
